Today there are new man-made wonders around the world. The
Empire State Building in New York City was the tallest building
in the world when it was completed in May 1931. Nearly 34,000
men worked on the building. The Sydney Opera House in Australia
was designed by the Danish architect Joern Utzon and opened
in 1973. The Eiffel Tower in Paris, built in 1888, is so well-liked
that it has become a symbol of the city.
There are also many natural wonders that have been created
by water, wind, and fire. The Great Barrier Reef
is the largest living organism on earth. It stretches 1,250
miles (2,012 kilometers) alongside Queensland, Australia.
The Grand Canyon in the state
of Arizona in the U.S. was created by thousands of years of
water from the Colorado River wearing down rock. A great example
of the power of water is Niagara Falls. It lies between Canada
and the U.S. Six hundred thousand gallons (2,270,600 liters)
of water spill over the falls each second.
There are many more new and incredible
man-made and natural wonders to discover in the world. We
hope you can go out and see some of them for yourself.
